Physiology
The Heccus Turbo is a high power ultrasound equipment with a flat transducer that promotes cavitation in biological tissues, and from that, its physiological effects. Cavitation is a phenomenon arising from mechanical energy that involves the formation of gaseous microbubbles in body fluids. In addition, it features Aussie, Polarized and High Volt currents that can be used associated with ultrasound or in isolation to achieve their therapeutic effects.
The Aussie current is the evolution of therapeutic currents, being exclusive to Ibramed and indicated for several treatments with the aim of muscle strengthening, analgesia and lymphatic drainage.
Ultrasound
The equipment features high power ultrasound with a maximum power of 72 Watts with ERA (Effective Radiation Area of 24 cm2, being 3 W/cm2 of output power). Ultrasound has both thermal and non-thermal (ie mechanical) effects. Thermal effects refer to tissue heating and increased local blood circulation.
The mechanical effects refer to the stable cavitation generated in the tissues that promotes the phenomena of mechanotransduction, collagen remodeling, thixotropic effect, stimulation of angiogenesis and lipolysis. In addition, ultrasound can be performed for the sonophoresis technique aiming at the permeation of actives through ultrasonic waves.
Aussie current
Aussie current, produced exclusively by IBRAMED, is a medium frequency depolarized alternating current developed by PhD Alex Ward at the University of La Trobe in Melbourne, Australia. The first researches were published in the year 1998, and since then, the author has produced several scientific researches that support the therapeutic functions and effects of the Aussie current.
Scientific studies have shown that Aussie current is capable of producing greater muscle torque than other electrical currents, such as Russian, FES, TENS and interferential currents, as it has a short duration of Bursts with intervals between larger Bursts, preventing occurrence of the spatial summation effect, and therefore, preventing the occurrence of early muscle fatigue. In addition, studies have shown that Aussie current is able to promote more comfortable stimulation, increasing patients' adherence to treatment.
This current can be used for sensorial stimulation with 4 kHz of carrier frequency, where we aim at lymphatic drainage or analgesia. Analgesia can be stimulated by two pathways: endorphin release (descending mechanism) or pain gate (ascending mechanism where pain uses the nociceptive pathway of smaller-caliber and slow-conducting fibers), different from large-caliber fibers and faster conduction. which are used as the electrical impulse conduction pathway, thus promoting analgesia.
Another applicability of the Aussie current is motor stimulation with a carrier frequency of 1 kHz, aiming at muscle strengthening and toning for the treatment of muscle flaccidity and postoperatively.
The equipment also makes it possible, with Aussie current, to use the technique of electrolipolysis through needles for the treatment of localized fat and cellulite.
Polarized Current
The polarized current other than the galvanic current is a pulsed current, which minimizes the electrolytic effects of the current for the occurrence of burns. With this current, the iontophoresis technique is applied for permeation of active principles present in cosmetics through the mobilization and ionic interaction between the current, the active principle and the ions present in the tissues, promoting the repulsion of the active towards the interior of the tissue. , thus crossing the skin so that the active ingredient can exert its local effects. In this case, the active ingredient must necessarily have the same polarity to be adjusted in the equipment so that it is repulsed into the tissue.
High Volt Current
High Volt current is a high voltage pulsed current that has 2 twin high voltage peaks in its technical configuration. With this current, the electroporation technique is applied to permeate active principles present in cosmetics through the formation of transient pores in the cell membrane, which allows the active principle to enter the cells, crossing the cell membrane so that it can exert its local effects. In this case, the active ingredient does not need to have polarity, as permeation does not occur by repulsion of the same into the tissue.
In addition, the High Volt current is used for tissue healing in the postoperative period of plastic surgery, edema and lymphatic drainage and analgesia.

High Power Ultrasound
Ultrasound at frequencies of 3.3MHz and 1.1MHz, which allows efficient treatment even in thicker adipose tissue. It has 3 ultrasound emitters with ERA – effective radiation area – of 8cm² (totaling 24cm²), with 24W each and maximum output power of 72W, promoting greater therapeutic effect and shorter session time.
The Heccus Turbo also features continuous, pulsed and superpulsed modes, in addition to a light and ergonomic transducer. And it associates thermal and mechanical effects, which produce vasodilation and increase in tissue viscoelasticity, cavitation, signal mechanotransduction, lipolysis, angiogenesis, thixotropic effect, among others. In this modality, only the ultrasound transducer and gel with or without actives are used.
Aussie current
Aussie is a burst modulated medium frequency alternating therapeutic current. It offers two frequency possibilities: 1KHz and 4KHz, which allows selection of the frequency according to the therapeutic objective, with 1KHz for muscle strengthening and toning, while the frequency of 4KHz for lymphatic drainage and analgesia.
The Aussie current features continuous, synchronous, sequential and reciprocal output modes, in addition to a short duration burst (2ms in 1KHz current and 4ms in 4KHz current), which makes the stimulation provided more efficient compared to other therapeutic electrical currents.
In this modality, the Heccus Turbo allows static technique with electrodes (8 output channels) or dynamic technique (via transducer), depending on the treatment protocol chosen.
Polarized Current
Polarized is a single-phase pulsed current that flows in only one direction. Its therapeutic application is intended for dynamic and static iontophoresis (permeation of assets through electrorepulsion) associated with the polar effects of current. The current contemplates positive and negative mode.
In this modality, Heccus Turbo allows static technique with electrodes (2 output channels) or dynamic technique (via transducer and dispersive electrode), depending on the treatment protocol chosen.
High Volt Current
High Volt current, also known as high-voltage pulsed current (CPAV), or high-voltage electrical stimulation (HEAV), is a current with twin pulses of high amplitude and short duration. Its waveform is single-phase (current flows in only one direction). The high voltage causes a decrease in skin resistance, making the current comfortable and tolerable. It offers both continuous and synchronous output modes.
In this modality, the Heccus Turbo allows static technique with electrodes (2 output channels) or dynamic technique (via transducer and dispersive electrode), depending on the treatment protocol chosen.
Three-dimensional sonophoresis

What are the power modes of the Heccus Turbo?
The Heccus Turbo allows multiple therapy combinations: three-dimensional sonophoresis (ultrasound + Aussie current), sonoelectroporation (ultrasound + High Volt current) and sonoiontophoresis (ultrasound + polarized current).
Is it possible to achieve results even in patients with greater thickness of adipose tissue?
The Heccus Turbo brings ultrasound at frequencies of 3.3MHz and 1.1MHz, which is directly related to the depth of action. As the adipose tissue thickness is adjusted in the “Adipometer” parameter on the screen, Heccus Turbo automatically selects the best treatment frequency for the therapeutic objective.
What is the effect of the superpulsed mode in the treatment of localized fat?
The superpulsed mode combines the effects of cavitation with the heat of high power and the effect of acoustic shock waves. This sum favors the emulsification of fats in the adipocyte, inducing apoptosis and making the treatment more efficient.
How is it possible to calculate the session time through the transducer?
Just as the conventional Heccus uses the time calculation by measuring the area to be treated (area in cm²/ERA), the Heccus Turbo uses the area of the transducer itself to calculate the time. The application time parameter is adjusted following the calculation: measurement of the applicator area = 100cm² divided by 24 (size of the effective area of ultrasound radiation), totaling 4 minutes of application per physical area of the applicator.
Then, measure with the transducer itself and press the corresponding number on the screen, and the equipment will program the time. This results in less time to prepare for the session.
How do I calculate the optimal ultrasound intensity for my treatment?
To calculate the ultrasound intensity, the “Adipometer” parameter must be adjusted. With the help of an adipometer, measure your patient’s treatment area and enter the value obtained in centimeters on the “Data entry” sub-screen (maximum value = 4.5 cm). The adjustment of the ultrasound intensity and the ultrasound mode (continuous or pulsed) will be done automatically.
What do I find on the “Info” screen?
On the “Info” button, you will find an informative tutorial for each treatment protocol, images and precise information on how to use the equipment in each protocol. In addition, of course, to clear, quick and functional information for the therapist, optimizing the use of the equipment and promoting improved results.
When can I use the remote control that comes with the equipment?
The remote control is an auxiliary device that allows starting (Start) and stopping (Stop) the combined therapy and adjustment of the current intensity during the session, in the following modalities: three-dimensional sonophoresis (ultrasound + Aussie), sonoiotophoresis (ultrasound + polarized) and sonoelectroporation (ultrasound + High Volt).
What can I do to prevent the head from overheating?
During treatment, the gel tends to dehydrate, making the passage of ultrasonic energy difficult, especially in large areas and high powers. This can raise the internal temperature of the transducer. To prevent this from happening, spray water over the gel during treatment and add gel to the area being treated.
However, if the temperature reaches the safety limit (41°C), the equipment cuts off the ultrasound emission and freezes the timer. On the display, an image appears showing excess temperature and the equipment beeps during the entire time that the equipment is not emitting.
Spray water over the gel and continue with the treatment movement, this helps the temperature to drop more quickly. Only when the temperature returns below 41°C, the ultrasound is emitted again. Increase the current dose again to continue the treatment.
